What is the CAST Forum?

We are a forum of clinical supervisors who have all trained with the Creative Arts Supervision Training, London.

We are Dramatherapists, Play Therapists, Art Therapists and Music Therapists with extensive experience and knowledge of working as supervisors and therapists with both adults and children, in mental health settings, schools, the community and private practice and we work with all creative art forms in the supervision room.

We are a register of insured clinical supervisors and we would be delighted to support you in your search to understand how valuable supervision is in your work or to assist you to find the right supervisor for your needs.

What is Supervision?

Supervision is a specialised form of mentoring provided for practitioners responsible for undertaking challenging work with people.

Supervision is a formal process where a practitioner regularly presents his or her client work to a designated or chosen supervisor as way of enhancing their practice through careful reflection on the process.

The main purpose of supervision is to ensure the efficacy of the practitioners practice.  It is in place to ensure standards, enhance quality, advance learning, stimulate creativity, and support the sustainability and resilience of the work being undertaken.

Supervision can take place weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the needs of the practitioner.

Currently supervision is required for counselling, psychotherapy and other health professionals, however is becoming more widely incorporated in schools and education.

The cost of supervision can vary depending on the experience, skill set and practice of supervisor.  This will be considered before a supervisor and supervisee start working together.

All supervisors should be DBS checked and fully insured.  There are statutory, regulatory and professional bodies that they also may belong to.  Please do ask about these when you meet your supervisor as each practitioner training and professional body has different requirements.

All supervisors with CAST have trained as Creative Arts Supervisors and use all art forms within their work to support supervisees creatively.

What are the art forms?

Music Therapy

Music therapy is a psychological therapy that aims to facilitate positive changes in emotional wellbeing and communication through the engagement in live musical interaction between client and therapist

Dramatherapy

Dramatherapy has as its main focus the intentional use of healing aspects of drama and theatre as the therapeutic process. It is a method of working and playing that uses action methods such as drama, story-making, music, movement and art to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight and growth.

Art Therapy

An art therapist uses art materials and directives to activate sensory responses and generate imagery that is directly connected to emotions. This process helps one to re-experience emotions in a way that allows them to organize their feelings and form a narrative around an overwhelming experience.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a type of therapy where play and art materials are used as the main way for people to express themselves.  Using play in therapy helps people to express themselves in their own way; especially if they are struggling to understand how they are feeling, or are finding it hard to put their experiences into words.
